Agriculture plays a large role in the McCool Junction economy. However, McCool Junction is home to a popular restaurant and racetrack, both of which were recently constructed. The community continues to grow as new homes are built and existing homes are renovated.
The Junction Motor Speedway, constructed in 2003, is located on the west side of McCool Junction. It is now one of the premier dirt tracks in the state of Nebraska, drawing thousands of racing teams and spectators to McCool Junction.
Another new addition to McCool Junction is Kerry's Bar & Grill, which opened in 2004. The new restaurant has accomodations for banquets and groups, outdoor seating during warm weather and indoor seating for 130 throughout the year.
