The Village of McCool Junction if governed by a five member Board of Trustees which meets the first Monday of the month. The trustees are divided into committees: streets and alleys, fiance and health. The Village Planning Commission meets the last Tuesday of the month at 7:30 p.m. in the village office. The zoning administrator is Jim Green.

Law Enforcement
The Village of McCool Junction is served by the York County Sheriff's Department, which has nine sworn officers and 15 support personnel. The sheriff's department is loaced eight miles from McCool Junction, in York. McCool Junction is also serviced by Troop C of the Nebraska State Patrol, which is headquartered in Grand Island.
Volunteer Fire Department & Ambulance Service
Fire protection is provided in the community by a 21-member volunteer fire department. Mutual aid agreements are made with surrounding districes to provide protection to areas outside the village limits. Emergency ambulance transport is provided by York Fire and Rescue Squad.
